Pinkston Makes it Official

Pinkston Makes it Official

Posted by Brian on April 19, 2010 · Filed Under '10-11, JayVaughn Pinkston, Recruiting

Pinkston NovemberWith the late signing period under way (or is it the regular signing-period?), Villanova recruit JayVaughn Pinkston has signed his national letter of intent.

Pinkston is a McDonalds All-American who was considered to be the best big man in New York City this past year. He is short for a power forward at 6′6″, but at 235lbs, he has plenty of bulk and athleticism to succeed in the college game.

Pinkston has developed his outside game in recent years and participated in the 3-pt shooting contest at the McDonalds All-American game.

On Pinkston, Coach Jay Wright said:

JayVaughn is an incredibly talented young man who has a unique passion for the game. He has been well-coached byEdwin Gonzalez and Kimani Young. He can play multiple positions and has been a leader at Bishop Loughlin for four years. We are thrilled to welcome JayVaughn and his mom, Kerry, into the Villanova Family.

JayVaughn Pinkston is the seventh McDonald’s All-American to sign with Jay Wright. The others are Jason Fraser, Scottie Reynolds, Corey Stokes, Taylor King, Dominic Cheek and Malik Wayns. He is the sixth all-american to join the Wildcats since 2006.

He joins James Bell as a freshman next year, while Markus Kennedy will spend another year at Winchendon and delay enrollment until 2011.

North Texas New Student Yield Reception

On Saturday afternoon, April 24 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm we will be having a reception for accepted members of this year’s Freshman Class from the North Texas area. My wife, Jodie, and I are pleased to be hosting this year’s event. Our home is at 5105 Streamwood Lane, Plano, TX 75093. I am a 1980 Graduate of Villanova University and our daughter, Erin, will be part of the Villanova Class of 2014.

Here is a link for directions:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=5105+Streamwood+lane,+Plano,+TX+75093&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=48.641855,78.662109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=5105+Streamwood+Ln,+Plano,+Collin,+Texas+75093&ll=33.018956,-96.812725&spn=0.025333,0.038409&z=15

Also attending from Villanova will be Cate Schneider, Assistant Director of Admission.

Our reception will give you the opportunity to interact with these prospective students from throughout the Metroplex. We welcome all members of the Villanova Family and really want to stress our need for young Alum’s and parents of current Villanova Students or parents recent Grads.

This year’s Accepted Freshman Class includes a record 91 students from Texas – 47 from the Greater Metroplex area. We currently have nearly 70 undergraduate students from Texas on campus.

This year Villanova received 14,365 applications for the class of 2014 and 5,803 were offered admission.

For more information please give me a call – the best number is my cell (972) 365-0277.

We look forward to seeing you!

NCAA Tournament game Thursday at 11:30 am CDT

Since there will be three games being played in this time slot Thursday,

There is a good chance we will not be able to see all the Villanova game on Channel 11

( see CBS websie schedule for details at http://www.cbssports.com/cbssports )

A gamewatch at Humperdinks, or perhaps Champps (Addison), is our best bet.

Who would be interested?

Next year Villanova has linedup some real beauties; all are 4 star or above depending on the recruiting source. First thereis a power forward # 7 (Rivals) 6' 6" from Brooklyn NY Jayvaughn Pinkston who is verbally committed. Second and third are reported as signed in onesourceand committed in the other ; they are a Center at 6'9'' Markus Kennedy and Small Forward James Bell 6'5''. Additionally for 2011 a Shooting Guard from Brookville NY 6'3'' Achruf Yaroubou. If your interested you can follow all recruiting by calling up Rivals recruiting Basketball.

New Student Yield Reception

On Saturday, April 24th, The Villanova North Texas Alumni Group will be hosting a 'Yield' Reception for North Texas Students accepted into the Class of 2014. The idea is that we 'close' the deal for Villanova with these students. We have yet to determine a time and place - I will contact Tom Klein and give him a first right of refusal as he and his wife Diana have graciously hosted this event the last two years.

Cate Schneider, Our Admissions Department Rep at Villanova, will be attended once again. Cate told me a few weeks ago that we had nearly 100 applications so far this year from Texas and they were still coming in.

In other news Villanova 'acceptee' Erin Digan scored 4 points, had 6 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 2 assists as Plano West stayed undefeated in District play with a victory last night against McKinney Boyd. Please keep in mind that these are unofficial stats coming from the eyes of a rather biased dad.

Go Wildcats!
